FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a program for junior high and high school students. Students will face off in a game (that changes each year) using a robot that typically has to fit within an 18 inch cube. Each team will design their robot based upon engineering principles, program it using any of a variety of programming languages, and present their robot to judges at competitions. Teams can win awards at competitions based upon overall design, robot performance, community outreach, and other real-world accomplishments.
Furthermore, participation in FTC makes students eligible to apply for some of the scholarships offered by FIRST which vary in range from $1,000 non-renewable to full tuition for four years of college, or for scholarships offered by individual colleges based upon FIRST participation.
